Coordinators
Drs. Travis Doering and Lori Collins are the Directors of the Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies at the University of South Florida (USF). They, in conjunction with FAMSI, have developed the MESOAMERICAN THREE-DIMENSIONAL IMAGING DATABASE. Their intent is to present ultra-high resolution, three-dimensional images of Mesoamerican sculpture and artifacts to the research community for in-depth analysis and interpretation.
The pair has successfully integrated a suite of state-of-the-art and conventional spatial technologies that provide data sets that permit archaeologists and other researchers to address questions at multiple scales. Their ongoing work has led to procedures for extracting a greater amount of information and, in some cases, to rescue or resurrect previously imperceptible detail on sculpted objects. Through implementation of their High Definition Documentation Survey techniques, they also provide exceptionally accurate and robust data sets that range from individual handheld artifacts, to features and architecture, to site and landscape level documentation.
Doering and Collins continue to work nationally and internationally with public, private, academic, and government sector organizations in areas of archaeology, epigraphy, iconography, and cultural and natural heritage preservation. They welcome your comments, questions and suggestions regarding their work. You may contact them at or . For information about their other projects please visit http://aist.cas.usf.edu.
