Site:  Nasca Clados Number:  376 Culture:  Nasca Description:  bottle, C-12075, M.N.A.A.H.-Lima. Chronological Era:  Early Intermediate Period (EIP), Nasca 7 Phase. Iconographic Features:  one of the most outstanding Nasca 7 battle scenes. Four elaborately costumed warriors hold feather staffs, spears and carrying cords. They carry parts of the equipment of defeated warriors (headdress, loincloth). One warrior carries a trophy head hanging from a carrying cord. They are surrounded by headless corpses, products of the battle that included decapitation, and by spears, fans and loincloths (of the victims) as well as by (Rayed) Faces with “Snake Eyes”. At the center of the battle a trophy (head) rack (with two trophy heads) is depicted. A descending Wari Stinger Animal holding a trophy head is depicted on the bridge, maybe attacking the (victorious) warriors (divine intervention). Iconographic Features:  running (profile) warriors holding feather staffs and clubs. They are surrounded by (Rayed) Faces with "Snake Eyes", spears and parts of the equipment (tunics, loincloths) of the defeated warriors. A single head (with headdress) of one of the defeated warriors appears between the running (profile) warriors. Site:  Nasca Clados Number:  379 Culture:  Nasca Description:  step-fret effigy bottle, MAR-037, Amano Museum, Lima. Chronological Era:  Early Intermediate Period (EIP), Nasca 7 Phase. Iconographic Features:  A. decapitation scene. Three elaborately costumed warriors, two of them decapitate their victims by using an obsidian knife (?) (left) and a brass knuckle-like weapon (center bottom). Two of the warriors are dressed as (supernatural) birds (Crested Bird, Inca tern, condor?) (left and right), the third (center bottom) is dressed as Killer Whale Mythical Being/Feline Killer Whale. They are surrounded by (Rayed) Faces with "Snake Eyes" and parts of the equipment of the defeated warriors (headdress, spears). Blood is represented by (black!) spots. One of the defeated warriors (center bottom) wears a fox skin similar to the ones of Moche warriors. B. decapitation scene. Three elaborately costumed warriors, one of them decapitating his victim by using a brass knuckle-like weapon (right). Two of them carry trophy heads (left, bottom). All three are dressed as (supernatural) birds (egret, guanay cormorant?). The warrior on the right wears a Wari headdress. They are surrounded by (Rayed) Faces with "Snake Eye" and spears. Iconographic Features:  battle scene depicting Mythical Monkey (?) with human head and running profile warrior who carries a trophy head. They are surrounded by Rayed Faces (One-Eyed Rayed Face), carrying cords and fishes. Fishes indicating a battle close to a river. Association with (modelled version of a) Surrounded Feline Head consisting of a feline head framed by four striped arms. It upholds a reed boat on which a naked woman (of the Principal Couple?) lies. Iconographic Features:  battle scene depicting (a modelled version of) Feline Man (1) and Harpy(?) (4). Feline Man depicted with upraised arms holding a club and a trophy head. Harpy holds a club with both hands. It is depicted standing with one foot on the chest of a (killed) human (victory pose). Feline Hawk (2) and Bird Mythical Being 4 (BMB-4) (3) are depicted below. Iconographic Features:  Crested Bird (?) captures warrior by his cap while the warrior is grasping his own hair (gesture of self-humiliating). Different moments in time are shown: after the warrior took the trophy head he is captured by the Crested Bird.
