Comments:  This piece was probably used as a drain because it is shaped like a tube. A rectangular opening on the top means that the liquid would have run down the sides of the alligator or serpent's head . A human figure comes out of its jaws and the nose of this supernatural being is a jaguar's head.

Reference:  Caso and Bernal (1952: 79, fig. c).
Comments:  Caso and Bernal (1952: 79, fig. c) say that this piece comes from an excavation in Courtyard S.V.G., Well 4, in Monte Albán, but this is not possible because this head appears in one of the shelves of the Sologuren Collection circa 1902. Thus, the information provided by Caso and Bernal is wrong.

Comments:  There is confusion about who found this piece. According to Caso and Bernal (1952: 508) it was Marshall Saville and they cite his article of 1899. However, there is no mention of this piece in the work. It was undoubtedly part of the Sologuren Collection because it is shown in photos of his heritage, at the beginning of the last century.
