Genealogy

K'uk' B'alam I has been called the founder of the Palenque dynasty, because he is the first known Palenque ruler from Classic times, according to most researchers. As such, he was likely the father of the next Palenque king, "Casper II", as shown below. It should be noted that Karen Bassie-Sweet (1991:205, 261 notes 9,10) has argued that K'uk' B'alam I was a mythological figure, the son of U Kokan Chan, and that he lived in the last half of the tenth century, BC.
