The text was apparently finished by Pakal's son K'inich Kan B'alam II, as it records Pakal's death and Kan B'alam II's accession.

Descripción:  Reconstruction of stucco reliefs from the entablature of the Temple of the Cross. The upper drawing is based on the remains of the north side; the lower drawing is based on the extant remains of the west side. The reliefs represent Witz-like deities with gaping mouths. Tiny humans sit either atop or near the stone, reptilian front legs of each Witz-creature; fish nibble the waterlilies that surround the Witz-creatures' heads.

Descripción:  Pier B from Temple of the Inscriptions. Based on the quetzal and jaguar in the headdress, the standing figure may represent K'uk' B'alam I, founder of the Palenque dynasty. The child cradled in his arms is presumably K'inich Kan B'alam II. However, the child exhibits a flaming axe in his forehead and one foot in the form of a serpent; traits that are diagnostic of K'awiil.
