Common Name:  Morelet’s Crocodile
Maya Name:  A’ayin, Kum ayim
Faunal Type:  Reptile/Amphibian

Significance:  Crocodile tails were eaten by the Maya. Skulls were used for ceremonies. Jaws skulls and bones have been excavated from ceremonial centers. Bones were made into elite headdresses (Pohl 1983).
