Maya Plant Use:  Dorie Reents-Budet mentions the ear flower (Cymbopetalum penduliflorum) on page 78 (Figure 3.6) in her book, Painting the Maya Universe. This emphasizes the importance this plant may have played as a spice in the ancient chocolate beverage of the elite.
